Group Spiritual Direction

Discern in Community

Group Spiritual Direction brings a small group together in a confidential, prayerful environment where participants listen deeply to God, to themselves, and to one another.

Rather than offering advice or trying to solve one another's problems, the group learns to listen contemplatively and notice where the Spirit may be moving.

"Whoever wants to stand alone without the support of a master and guide will be like the tree that stands alone in a field without a proprietor. No matter how much the tree bears, passers-by will pick the fruit before it ripens.”

— St. John of the Cross, Sayings, 5

What Is Group Spiritual Direction?

Group Spiritual Direction is a shared practice of prayer, reflection, and contemplative listening within a small, confidential community.

Each person is given space to share what is stirring in their spiritual life while others listen—not to give advice or provide answers, but to prayerfully notice and reflect on where God may be present.

Through listening to one another's stories, participants often discover new ways of recognizing God's movement within their own lives.

Who Is Group Spiritual Direction For?

Group Spiritual Direction may be especially meaningful for those who desire spiritual companionship while also experiencing the wisdom and support of a prayerful community.

What Happens In A Group?

Each gathering creates intentional space to slow down, listen, and become more attentive to God's presence.

Sessions may include silence, prayer, individual sharing, Scripture or guided reflection, contemplative listening, and shared discernment.

Each participant has space to share while the rest of the group listens prayerfully. Rather than offering advice or trying to solve one another's problems, participants practice listening for what may be stirring beneath the surface and where the Spirit may be moving.

A Confidential, Prayerful Space

Trust and confidentiality are essential to Group Spiritual Direction. What is shared within the group is held with care and respect, creating a space where each person can speak honestly about their spiritual life.

Participants are invited to listen with compassion and curiosity rather than judgment, advice, or the need to fix.

The goal is not to find answers for one another, but to create space where each person can listen more deeply for God.

How Groups Meet

Groups are intentionally kept small to support trust, meaningful sharing, and contemplative listening.

Group Spiritual Direction may be offered in person or virtually and can be organized around particular seasons, themes, or spiritual questions.

Group size, meeting frequency, and length of the experience may vary depending on the particular group offering.
